My family and I weren't sure which island to visit when we were in Naples. Capri seemed like an obvious choice but we were put off by the thought of the summer crowds. Ischia was another option, a less glamorous but interesting island. In the end it was Procida that won our vote; our decision swayed by seeing photos of the multi-coloured harbour Marina Corricella (above).
As we pulled into Procida's harbour, we knew we made a good choice. The ferry arrives at Marina di Procida which is lined with several shops and restaurants, which makes it a great place to hang around while you're waiting for the ferry back.
Procida is perfect for a day trip or a relaxing mini-break if you fancy spending a few days there.
- To get to Procida from Naples you can take a hydrofoil from Naples Beverello or catch the cheaper ferry at Calata Porta di Massa.
- Porto di Massa doesn't have a very obvious entrance so it's quite easy to miss (or maybe we just used the wrong entrance). It looks like it's only for cars but you can walk in, go right, and you'll find the ticket office. Google maps will be able to help you better than my terrible directions.
- Visit Procida has tonnes of useful information on what to do and where to stay.
